The housing market hasn’t been the problem. In fact, home sales have been booming in many areas. Instead, the problem has been getting your expected cash from the sale.For decades, nonresidents have been subject to significant tax withholding on the sale of their US homes. This means that if you are a nonresident, you only get 85% to 90% of your sales price at closing, less the amount necessary to cover your remaining mortgage and selling costs.
